Wooden Paper Knife (cnc)
thingiverse
Many years ago, I crafted a paper knife from wenge wood. The piece was carefully cut from a scrap board and smoothed to shape with sandpaper. Drawing inspiration from my small CNC machine, I decided to recreate the knife using a template made from one of our kitchen knives. By tracing the outline from two angles, I ensured an accurate representation. Next, I employed my desktop CNC machine by Stepcraft, along with a 3 mm flute designed specifically for cutting wood and 20 mm oak scraps obtained from my local wood dealer. After acquiring permission to rummage through their litter bin, I was able to gather the necessary materials. Following the first contour cut, I rotated the blank 90 degrees and secured it to the machine bed. Once the second cut was complete, I used a handheld router with a roundover bit to shape the handle. Minimal sanding was required to hone the blade and smooth out the handle further. A few drops of oil gave the knife a beautiful finish, highlighting the wood grain beautifully. Encouraged by my initial success, I proceeded to craft additional knives using checker tree and walnut wood. Initially, I didn't attempt to 3D print the STL file; instead, I relied on extrusion from the two contours generated in Fusion360. For more intriguing designs, visit https://www.zenziwerken.de/en/.
