Wooden Paper Knife (cnc)

Many years ago, I crafted a paper knife from wenge wood. The piece was carefully cut from a scrap fragment and sanded to precision shape. To recreate this design, I used one of our kitchen knives as a template and traced the outline from two distinct angles. Next, I employed my desktop CNC machine by Stepcraft and a long 3 mm flute designed specifically for cutting wood, along with some 20 mm oak scraps obtained from my local wood dealer. After inquiring about available materials, they kindly allowed me to rummage through their litter bin, where I found the perfect pieces. Using this setup, I began by cutting the first contour, then rotated the blank 90 degrees and secured it to the machine bed for the second cut. Once complete, I utilized a handheld router with a roundover bit to shape the handle, requiring only minimal sanding to refine the blade and smooth out the handle further. A light application of oil gave the knife a satisfying finish and showcased the beautiful grain pattern. With this initial success, I moved on to experiment with checker tree and walnut, crafting additional knives. I didn't attempt to 3D print the STL file; instead, I created an extrusion from the two contours using Fusion360 software. For more intriguing designs, visit https://www.zenziwerken.de/en/.
