Wooden Humidity Gauge

Wooden Humidity Gauge

Living in the Midwest can be a challenge if you have hardwood floors. Humidity gauges may provide a decent short-term reading of relative humidity, but they're not much help for long-term monitoring. I designed and built this wooden mechanical humidity gauge to track seasonal changes in moisture levels within wood floors. It's not an instantaneous indicator, but rather a long-term average tracker. As humidity shifts, the wooden beam contracts or expands, causing gears to move and a needle to adjust accordingly, giving a relative reading of how moisture levels affect our wood floors. When it gets too high, the AC kicks in.
