Wooden Gear Shift Knob
thingiverse
This design suits an '06 Honda Civic and is also compatible with similar year imports. It consists of an exterior part that you grip, and an insert which screws onto the car's shift rod. The insert has a 10 x 1.5 thread size. For the exterior part, I opted for Laywoo-D3 filament to achieve a classic wood look. This was my first significant project with this filament, and it turned out fantastic! Hope you enjoy too. If you're interested in more customization options, check out this Instructable: http://www.instructables.com/id/Customized-3D-Printed-Gear-Shift-Knobs/. To print the exterior part, use default accelerated print settings on a MakerBot Replicator. No raft or support is needed. Note that Laywoo-D3 might struggle filling holes at high speeds, so consider using non-accelerated settings for this filament. For ABS or PLA, the default settings should work great. The insert is printed with default accelerated settings and 60% fill in. It's better to have more fill since it bears the strain of screwing onto the shift rod.
