Wooden Barrel Model Kit for Envision the Future Design Challenge by Papa Golf Designs This tactile model represents a small wooden barrel, approximately 6 by 4.5 inches in size, to help visually impaired individuals understand traditional Coopering crafts. The craftsman who makes these containers is called a cooper. A barrel, cask, or tun is a hollow cylindrical container traditionally made of wooden staves bound by hoops and possessing flat ends or heads. The model was designed using Autodesk Fusion 360 and adapted for 3D printing support. It comprises 16 staves, 2 chime hoops, 2 bilge hoops, and 2 sets of heads (3 parts each) to assemble as either a bank or jar. All parts are inscribed with braille for easy identification, except for the top head ring used for jar assembly and the optional storage box. Due to tolerance variances in different 3D printers, it may not be possible to disassemble the model once the hoops have been seated. If repeated assembly is required, adjust the x and y scale of the hoops during slicing prior to printing or use rubber bands instead. All parts can be printed without support except for the bottom head plug, which allows braille inscription. The chime and bilge hoops can be printed together as they fit inside each other with enough clearance. Staves are to be printed on their side, centered on the bed for optimal results. Separate STLs without braille are also supplied for those who don't require inscriptions. Common parts to print: * 16 staves * 2 chime hoops * 2 bilge hoops Bank assembly requires: * Top head with coin slot * Bottom head with treaded hole * Bottom head plug treaded Jar assembly requires: * Top head ring * Top head lid * Bottom head full Optional parts: * Kit storage box * Kit storage box lid Assembly instructions: First, select the appropriate set of heads to assemble the kit as either a bank or jar. If assembling the bank, you will need the top head with coin slot, bottom head with treaded hole, and bottom head plug. If assembling the jar, use the top head ring, top head lid, and bottom head full. Next, take one stave in one hand and position it with the outside curve against the palm. Insert both heads into their respective slots at the end of the stave. For jar assembly, position the head ring so that its recess is facing out to allow the lid to fit properly. Continue adding staves one by one, ensuring they sit flush with the previous one and apply pressure on the heads to prevent them from falling off. Once enough staves are in place, the heads will stay put. Once all staves are in place, secure everything by installing the hoops. The chime hoops go nearest to the head, and the bilge hoops go nearest the middle of the barrel. They fit into grooves to keep the model securely assembled. The hoops are tapered to match the outside curve of the staves. Make sure the smaller side is toward the end of the barrel. Use your finger tips to bring them down into their respective grooves, applying some force as needed. Do the same with the bilge hoops. The last step remaining is to screw in the bottom plug if you opted for the bank or the lid if you opted for the jar. Enjoy.
