Here in Germany, particularly in an area where numerous apple trees are cultivated to produce juice, it's quite common for people to give their apples to a 'winepress'. The apples are pressed and the juice is cooked. After that, you get the juice in a 5 or 10-liter plastic bag. Such a plastic bag is fragile and difficult to carry, so they're stuffed into a carton box. That's why they're called 'Bag-in-Box'. Now, when you store multiple cardboard boxes together, they tend to deteriorate over time, especially if you reuse them the following year. A friend asked me if I could make such a box out of wood. My solution is a sturdy box that can be flat-packed for storage while being strong enough to be used several times. The top has a snap latch and multiple boxes are stackable. Since there was some extra space on the base material, I even added a small stand that tilts the box for easy access. Because the box looked a bit like a massive animal, I was tempted to add some eyes and ears but restrained myself from doing so. Out of pure fun, I created an assembly instruction. It might be helpful in determining the correct order of steps, but I'm quite sure anyone can assemble a box without any assistance. I made a bunch of these boxes on my [Sorotec Basicline] out of simple birch plywood using a 2.4 mm spiral-toothed endmill. The milling was a breeze.
