This is a precision tool setting gauge designed to achieve the exact reproducible grind angle on wood lathe bowl gouges. Regardless of the system you use (such as mine, the Sorby system), obtaining the same consistent grind angle is essential and will not only increase the sharpness of the tool but also significantly extend its life by reducing unnecessary wear on high-speed steel. Mount this gauge on your workbench, position your bowl gouge at the desired angle stop, then slide the mounting bracket up to align with the edge and tighten firmly. The precise angles are tailored for use with the Sorby system; however, they can be easily adapted to accommodate any system or, if needed, the distance between the gauge and the workbench edge can be adjusted to achieve a match for your specific setup.
