The metal base was printed using Prusament grey PLA, with future plans to experiment with more intriguing metaling finish PLAs, such as the Prusament PLA Pearl Mouse available at https://amzn.to/2Zit747. To achieve a professional-grade finish, you will need the following materials: Sandpaper: https://amzn.to/2Hjxk1i. This assortment includes 120-3000 grit sandpaper for optimal results. Wood stain: https://amzn.to/2TTKGqg. Choose your preferred color; this brand delivers exceptional results. Spray-on polyurethane finish: https://amzn.to/2KQybss. This sealant provides a glossy finish and protects the print. Post-Printing Procedure: Following printing at 0.1mm layer thickness, I commenced sanding with heavier grit paper (150-200) to eliminate visible layer lines. Progressing to lighter grits (320), I achieved a smooth surface. Finishing touches were applied using very fine grit paper and wet sanding. After sanding, I applied wood stain, coating the piece heavily and allowing it to soak before wiping off excess. The remaining stain was allowed to dry completely before applying polyurethane in thin coats with 30-minute drying intervals between applications. Two to three coats were sufficient for a durable finish. Once fully cured (approximately three to four hours later), I performed a final wet sanding using 2000 grit paper to polish the finish. This process can be adapted to achieve a metal-like appearance on the silver piece.
