I spent a weekend in January 2017 working on my first character from scratch for the Global Game Jam. I took it all the way through modeling/rigging/animating/texturing and got it into Unity for the first time. Here's how it turned out: https://rcoppy.github.io/unity-gnomerig-test/. My geometry has a lot of issues, textures aren't optimized and UVs are really bad, but it was still a great starting point.
