A fascinating piece is on loan from the Bureau of Archaeological Research in Tallahassee, Florida - Division of Historical Resources to the Tampa Bay History Center. Excavated artifacts from a Spanish Galleon ship wreck in Florida reveal a remarkable composite piece dating back to the 1700s. Constructed from wood and silver wrapping, this intricate piece showcases a lion head and attachment made entirely of silver. Using a high-tech laser scanning instrument with white light technology, we can now examine every detail. The individual pieces that make up this reconstruction are displayed in a possible "fit" scenario, but in reality, they remain separate entities. Thanks to 3D data, we can experiment with various reconstructions and designs, test hypotheses, and explore the endless possibilities.
