Woman's Head

Woman's Head

myminifactory

After discovering Constantin Brancusi in 1909, Modigliani started carving in stone, producing roughly twenty-five recognizable sculptures that left a lasting impression on his later figure and portrait paintings. These abstracted, elongated heads made a significant stylistic impact on his subsequent work. It is only natural that this art, with its deep connection to African sculpture, was originally owned by French artist Frank Burty Haviland, whose renowned collection of African art Modigliani knew intimately. Modigliani's sculptures also showcase his knowledge of ancient Cycladic, Sumerian, Egyptian, Greek and Oceanic Art.
