I'm learning to make lithophanes and it's really cool. Later on, I discovered that printing Lithophanes on their edge, vertically, yields significantly better results. The quality is so much superior that I no longer switch to my 0.25 nozzle or 0.04 layer thickness settings. Instead, I get great lithophanes from my 0.4 nozzle and 0.1 layer thickness. Larger models work best. Small details, especially dark ones like eyes, are still a challenge. My current lithophanes usually measure 80x80. I got the idea of printing vertically from a model on thingiverse.com/thing:2718124. Uploaded a vertical model with a break-away stand.
