Here is what I know about the whole situation. My buddy's kids are absolutely loving their gifts - and that's because I went out of my way to give them something truly special! Now, here's a bit more about how I made it happen. First off, I wanted to give you the lowdown on my expertise level when it comes to Minecraft - let me tell you, it's basically non-existent. BUT, there are some really talented designers out there who do know what they're doing! Specifically, Advacardo from Tinkercad did an amazing job creating all the original models I used to print these for my friend's kids. Now, not only was it easy peasy modifying them for printing, but you know what's even cooler? Those little cuties loved every single minute of their gifts - they're absolutely going wild over 'em! So now, when there are birthdays and holidays on the horizon, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be whipping up more and getting everything all ready to roll. It seems like just yesterday I started looking into ways to get involved with my friend's kids and share some of their enthusiasm for Minecraft - it really is a pretty cool game, after all! As I was messing around with the models in Tinkercad, I ran across this guy, Advacardo (https://tinkercad.com/users/lbvLxrZaE3E-advacardo) who basically knows his stuff when it comes to Minecraft designs. I ended up grabbing hold of some of their original 3D printer-friendly files and doing a bit of tweaking for printability. The kids really were totally thrilled - and more importantly, they dug 'em! That was pretty great to see. I do plan on cranking out more of these sorts of gifts down the line for any birthday or holiday, since it seems like my buddy's kids just loved that Minecraft-themed goodness! Thanks to everyone over at Minecraft who worked so darn hard to put all that awesome stuff together - this is definitely going to be a lifelong game (get it? Like in-game? . Now you might want to know the particulars on how I actually went about creating these Minecraft miniatures for my friend's kids. First things first: you'll need MakerWare, which makes all of this relatively simple (for lack of skill on my part!) Once we're set up and printing our little hearts out - let me tell you, these were created with a couple medium-sized settings going and, believe it or not, I managed to squeeze two full shells and an incredible layer height of just .2 mm (but that could be all wrong) I was then able to make everything look super sweet using nothing but a little bit of glue and paint. You won't regret printing any Minecraft stuff with MakerWare if you get the chance - that thing is pretty fantastic!
