Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge Section 5 officially opened on December 26, 2007, integrating an extensive network of up to 188 km connecting the Wuhan outer ring road seamlessly. It is part of the nationwide "five vertical and seven horizontal" national trunk road framework, boasting a total length of 10 km that achieved interoperability throughout Wuhan comprehensively. As one of Hubei Province's and Wuhan City's key construction projects under strict control, the bridge constitutes an essential segment of Beijing-Zhuhai, Shanghai-Chengdu, and other nationwide trunks connected by the Wuhan Ring Road engineering undertaken during the "Eleventh Five-Year" period. Designed to accommodate two-way six-lane traffic with a 33-meter clear deck width and conforming entirely to all-Expressway bridge design standards, this massive investment totaled about 2 billion yuan, creating an extraordinary suspension bridge spanning the river at an impressive 1,280 meters. The world's eighth largest suspension bridge to date boasts the unique South Anchorage Foundation project earning the nickname "Divine first anchor."
