Wire Shelf Stacking Connector
thingiverse
I had two wire shelving units (1" poles) where the leveling feet bolt holes were permanently fastened in place. To create one tall shelf unit for my makerspace, I needed to connect them together somehow. The challenge was attaching something where the leveling feet used to be to where the top endcaps were now located, which had no threads at all (as shown in an image).\r\n\r\nI designed a connector that takes a 3/8" bolt (requiring a 9/16" wrench) and screws into the remaining threads of the ex-leveling-foot holes. The connector extends about an inch into the ex-tube-cap hole, providing more than enough lateral stability in my initial prototype, which was only half an inch long.\r\n\r\nThere's a small 0.05" gap or "rim" separating the two poles from each other. I added this feature mainly to protect the ex-tube-cap pipe so it doesn't rub against the other pole and cause any metal-on-metal friction.
