The Wire Connectors Project Creating a functional wire connector that solely consists of wires and 3D printed connectors is an ongoing endeavor. The aim is to design a product with no additional components required, just the wires and connectors. ### Design Specifications A series of prototypes have been created based on several key specifications: * Ease of Assembly * The third version of this connector has been designed from scratch, addressing issues encountered in previous versions where assembly proved difficult. These current designs are more manageable. * Small Size * Although larger than standard wire connectors, they remain compact enough for use. * Reliability of Connection * Testing is required to ensure the effectiveness of these connections. Work on this aspect continues. * Ease of Printing * Due to small features, printing requires a slow first layer to adhere properly and may necessitate trimming edges if an "elephant foot" forms. * Low Risk of Shorting * The design should prevent short circuits, except in the case where loose wire strands are present. Tight twisting or light soldering can mitigate this risk. * No Other Parts Required * Only a press fit is needed; no screws, springs, or other components are required. * Easily Separated Yet Firm * The male and female connectors can be quickly connected and disconnected. Tolerances are being adjusted to achieve a snug yet not overly tight fit. * Wires Held Tightly * The holder securely holds the wires in place, allowing for easy removal with deliberate force or a sharp yank. * Tolerant of Wire Size * Further testing is needed to verify compatibility across various wire sizes. Current testing involves 0.6mm diameter speaker wire. The goal is to use these connectors as replacements for fans on a printer until JST connectors are received. These designs are not yet perfect, and any improvements or suggestions are welcome. To assemble the connectors effectively, using pliers to flatten the wires before slotting them into place is recommended. This action increases surface contact while also relieving pressure from the female end. ### Version 1.1 Changes * A version of the holder with drillable holes has been added, addressing the issue of small print features. * Tolerances have been adjusted to enhance fitment between male and female connectors. * A fillet was added to the female base to prevent first-layer squishing and elephant foot issues. * The wire holding part of the base has been elongated for better wire support. * The V on the holder has been deepened. * A video demonstrating the design can be found at [https://youtu.be/v-mV1HiuYus](https://youtu.be/v-mV1HiuYus).
