WIRE CABLE LOOM or RACEWAY
thingiverse
I needed a way to run wires around the ROSTOCK MAX V2 I'm building, so I wasn't ready to zip tie the wires here and there. Adding in some new wiring for LED lighting made me want to keep it clean and organized. So I thought I would make a couple of wire looms to use, not just for the printer build but also for a few ARDUINO projects I'm planning. After making my first print, I decided to make some other sizes so I thought a CUSTOMIZER THING file would be nice to have. This is my first effort at a CUSTOMIZER THING, an interesting experience. I do note that the resizing is slow due to method of sizing used in OPENSCAD rendering. So be patient if you use it. Print Settings Printer: FLASHFORGE CREATOR PRO (2016) Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: Standard Infill: 20-25% Notes: Rafts were too much trouble, and they removed easily enough. Post-Printing A bit hard to get the tree supports out; not that many to remove, but they are inside and need to be pushed out. I used a long small screwdriver. How I Designed This I started with a square tube and a slot in one corner to slide the wires in. But felt the build would be a bit complex with supports. I could fix this by two-piece design, but I wanted a one piece, so I dropped the idea of a slide on top for the square. This moved my design to a triangle (in OPENSCAD, a three-sided cylinder). I went with staggered fingers to allow wires to be laid in in a zigzag fashion one at a time or the fingers allow enough space to spread the opening as you feed the wires along. I added side holes for the ability to drop out wires along the loom. And added bottom holes if I want to mount with screws to the cabinet walls, but plan to use most of the time 3M double-sided tape used for applying car trim and such. To make it resize, I tried for the first time "multmatrix" to rescale it. A handy transform for scaling. I had to try making my first CUSTOMIZER THING, and this seemed like a good item to try. Custom Section First try with CUSTOMIZER, had to learn some new things there. It runs a bit slow, a lot of calculations. I plan to add an option for side holes or no side holes and maybe resize them. I added them for dropping wires and to save filament (like it saves a lot).
