Another DFM project in the books. Design for manufacturing or DFM is drafting done with the intention of using the print in the machine shop to actually fabricate a part. Just designing and designing with the intention of fabrication - there is a huge difference. This project: This is a wire aligner box. The name is obvious to tell its use to handle wire clutter better.Mechanical Engineer's prospective: So, this project helped me learn a very simple lesson. I modeled the tapped drills to be #4-40 but after 3D print in an Ultimaker using PLA, the fasteners would not go in. So, I ended up making the hole diameter to be .1" instead of the nominal .0890" in the model. Every machine is different and what the final end product would be has to do nothing with the model or print. Another quick fix that I could do is just hand drill it after the print.
