WIP Electric Upright Bass
thingiverse
This is a work-in-progress remake of the O'Cello, scaled from the cello fingerboard to the fingerboard of a full-sized upright bass. It also features a crudely redesigned bottom section. After about a week of continuous printing around the clock, it was easily assembled and tuned for play. A 3/4 in. diameter 4 ft. long steel rod is used in its construction. Musiclily Bass Guitar Tuning Pegs Keys (from Amazon) are also incorporated. The instrument was assembled entirely with super glue and holds steady. Cheap full-sized upright bass strings were used, but they were far too long and caused tuning issues. Overall, the instrument is playable, but it's incredibly quiet and needs amplification. Its tone is very metallic and raw, likely due to the cheap strings. Improvements are still needed. To-do list: 1. The holes inside each piece are slightly smaller than the pole and need to be increased. I had to tediously sand each piece to get a snug fit. 2. The pole extends midway through Part6S2. This is yet to include some type of end pin. 3. An amplification system needs to be installed, as it's barely audible. Feel free to remix and improve this project! Enjoy the process.
