The original Winterhalder & Hofmeier clock back door came with something that was either wood or leather that had a bunch of crosses in it. Rather than try to find that original material, I got lazy and made one from a photo using 3D builder. It isn't perfect, but the size is very close to the original. It's rigid enough so that it doesn't flop around. Printed with PLA. I painted it brown/goldish metal with some tremclad spray paint.
