Winnetka-Northfield Library's Youth Department Cursive Stencil
thingiverse
Many inventions created specifically for the STEM fields have been showcased in this competition. However, this project proudly showcases the humanities and writing! It's especially noteworthy that it features cursive, a lost art that is surprisingly no longer taught extensively in schools. Here, we have a straightforward stencil to help young 3D printers of the future learn how to write in print letters. Learning to write with a tool rather than typing on a keyboard is a valuable skill for young minds when learning and memorizing letters, and it can also be beneficial for anyone new to a language, spelling, or reading and writing. The Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District proudly houses The Studio, a fantastic makerspace open to everyone. For this challenge, library staff collaborated on ideas and potential entries for the competition. We've observed many schools and individuals participating in Thingiverse's competitions, but it's exciting to see a library finally join in! Many of these ideas and designs were inspired by our makerspace and renovated youth department. More about the Library District and The Studio: The Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District is a community resource dedicated to advancing knowledge and providing innovative cultural enrichment for all ages. The Studio was made possible by a generous gift from the Staffileno Family, which enabled the library to create a space honoring Constance E. Staffileno's memory. The Studio embodies Mrs. Staffileno's passion for art and art education, inspiring generations of innovators and art enthusiasts. Located on the lower level of the Winnetka Library, The Studio features cutting-edge technology and equipment like 3D printers, Adobe Creative Cloud software, and a laser engraver, as well as classic art mediums like paint and canvas. This space inspires and educates a community of artistic makers and creators. If you have any questions or would like more information, feel free to email us at studio@winnetkalibrary.org
