**Short Summary:** This "thing" is for use with the WingTite shower drain. It is a simple funnel which guides shower water directly down the drain pipe and should help avoid shower drain leaks. -------------------------------- **Details:** The Wingtite shower drain eliminates the typical requirement to have access to the shower plumbing *below* the shower. This is a life-saver for "slab on grade" construction or in upper floors where drywall removal would otherwise be required. However, the WingTite system has, in my opinion, a flaw: It relies on a compression O-ring around the OUTSIDE of the soil pipe to create a seal between the drain body and the soil pipe. Abrasive debris (such as sand and dirt) is likely to interfere with or degrade the o-ring/pipe interface over time. I suspect the unmodified system works fine for many installations, but I wasn't taking the chance. This simple funnel part guides shower water down the INSIDE of the soil pipe where it belongs. The funnel, when installed correctly, becomes the primary protection against leaks and the WingTite o-ring seal becomes a secondary protection... rather than the sole protection. (See the diagrams). This part provides a snug fit in the WingTite drain. I used a thin bead of 100% silicone caulk below each of the four funnel tabs and around the perimeter of the funnel to assure a watertight seal between the funnel and the body of the WingTite drain. Note: Be sure to cut the top of the soil pipe such that it does not protrude above the bottom of the funnel tabs. In other words the outside of the funnel and the top of the soil pipe should not interfere. Disclaimer: I am not the first to "invent" this funnel concept. I suspect many folks have examined the WingTite design and immediately understood how it could be improved. Indeed, "aphex4000" shared a video on YouTube several years ago showing their version. My version fits more snugly, but installs exactly the same. I also recommend using silicone caulk to eliminate the possibility of water sneaking under the funnel; especially under the tabs. My hope is that by sharing this file with the community, it is beneficial and saves folks some design time... and maybe some very unwanted shower drain leaks. :-O I have included the Fusion360 design file in addition to the STL.
