Wingtip devices aim to enhance the efficiency of fixed-wing aircraft by reducing drag through partial recovery of tip vortex energy.[1] These devices come in various types, each functioning differently but sharing the common goal of improving aircraft performance. They also contribute to better handling characteristics and increased safety for trailing planes. Wingtip devices effectively augment a wing's aspect ratio without significantly increasing its span. While an extended span would lower lift-induced drag, it would conversely increase parasitic drag and necessitate stronger, heavier wings. Eventually, there is no net advantage from further expanded spans. Additionally, operational factors may impose constraints on the permissible wingspan.
