Winged retable with the Virgin Mary
sketchfab
Winged retable with the Virgin Mary, circa 1275-1300, now housed at the National Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark, originally a prized artifact at Iceland's Mule Church. Crafted using Autodesk's Memento Beta software, this pine altar-piece stands as the oldest and most historic piece within the collection. Its intricately designed wings can be folded over the central compartment for preservation or when not on display. When fully extended, these wings showcase exquisitely sculptured figures in relief, dramatically depicting pivotal scenes from Mary's life. While its vibrant polychromy undoubtedly adds to its visual allure, it is unlikely that this stunning colorwork is original, suggesting a later restoration effort.
