In ancient sculpture of the 5th century BC, Eros was typically depicted as a mature man. However, from the 4th century BC onwards, the god is frequently shown as an effeminate teenager. The adolescent's body has a softness and delicacy that perfectly suits the subject matter. Description Terracotta fragrance bottle with black glaze and white slip painted on top, featuring pink and blue accessories. In relief, Eros is seen landing; he has long curls and a kidaris; his skin is painted pink, while his wings are blue; both arms and behind him are draped in fabric; in his left hand, he holds out a phiale, while his right hand cradles an oinochoe. On either side of Eros are flowers and palmettes; below, a calyx of acanthus leaves is visible; the foot of the vase is painted red. Crafted in Attica.
