In Abrahamic religions, a cherub is one of God's direct attendants, an unearthly being with diverse roles assigned to them through numerous depictions. Their primary duty was originally the protection of the Garden of Eden. Although angelic status isn't explicitly attributed to cherubim in the Old Testament, later sources like De Coelesti Hierarchia identify them as a hierarchical rank of angels.
