Wing servo protector
thingiverse
This is a wing servo cover/protector and foam wing hard points, designed specifically for the Mini Talon but potentially suitable for other foam-based aircraft. Servo mounting screws should be used to secure the covers in place. This allows for easy removal of the cover for any necessary readjustment or inspection in the future. The critical step that was initially overlooked has been highlighted by MarkQV: it's essential to 'cut-in' inserts with a servo screw to thread the inside of the wing insert. This should be done after printing this part, as otherwise there is a risk that the inset may start spinning with the screw once glued into the wing. A well-threaded insert should enable easy screwing in of the servo crew while holding the insert in your hand. If you find it necessary to apply excessive force after threading the insert once, repeat the process several times for optimal results. To mount this on your aircraft: Measure and mark the position on your wing for the servo cover, ensuring that the middle hole aligns with the servo spline/arm rotation axis. Verify that there is no rubbing or scratching of the installed servo and push-rod as it moves through its full extension. If necessary, reposition the installation. Mark out at least three hole positions for the inserts. Push a scalpel in a cross pattern where the wing hard point will be mounted. Glue the wing hard points in place with hot glue (note that UHU POR is too weak for this application). Ensure the top of the mount is flush with the wing surface. Mount the covers using servo screws. The covers can also be glued in place if you don't need or want to access the servo horn for readjustments or maintenance. Happy flying!
