Wing Cosplay Framework

Made by Randell Daniel Co This is an instructional guide on how to craft your own durable bamboo framed wing. Initially, this project was part of a costume called Incursio Evolve from Akami Ga Kill. A close friend requested me to create this costume for him, prompting me to prototype three distinct versions of the wing. MATERIALS Bamboo (diameter 1.5 cm) - ideal for its strength and durability Glue gun - necessary for bonding components together Mighty ban - a strong adhesive for securing joints 3D printer - essential for creating complex designs with precision Metal skewer stick - provides additional structural support Zip tie - used to secure loose ends, as the wings can become heavy and cause 3D prints to break Metal or wooden stick (minimum 45 cm) - serves as a sturdy base WARNING Measurements may vary due to slight deviations in joint angles, significantly altering the wing's shape. The size and material of the wing can lead to 3D print failure. To mitigate this risk, connect the wing ends with metal, allowing them to bend instead of the joints absorbing impact. VIDEO https://youtu.be/y9G45rBRPyU Print Settings Printer: Dremel Idea Builder 3D20 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: Fast Infill: 80% - 100% Notes: Supports are only necessary for extra-long body STL files. A high infill percentage is crucial, as the joints will support a substantial wing weight. Post-Printing Consider gluing the body and joint locks using mighty ban or a glue gun (though the latter may be weaker). How I Designed This DESIGN 1 I employed an axled design, utilizing strings to open the wings. However, this approach only worked for one axle out of three. DESIGN 2 Bamboo with popsicle joints proved too weak but demonstrated the concept's feasibility. INSPIRATION I drew inspiration from a portable umbrella, measuring its components and scaling them up to create the wing. Bamboo was chosen for its exceptional strength and ability to resist bending like metal. Most materials used can be found at Canadian Dollarama.
