Wine flask
sketchfab
This small container is crafted from bronze and resembles an animal bag (askos). Ancient Romans employed bags made of pig skin, goat skin, or cowhide to transport wine. The distinctive features of the animal form remain evident in its legs and tail. To prevent spills, you place the askos on its haunches and secure the opening at the neck with a tie. This bronze vessel, which can also serve as a seat, was designed for traveling and sealed with a cork. Originating from Asia Minor, circa 2nd century AD, it bears inventory number 14.005.
