Window Shutter Broken Pin Replacement

Window Shutter Broken Pin Replacement

My house boasts old-style narrow wooden shutters that showcase the charm of a bygone era. However, the wooden pin that allows the shutter slats to pivot can easily break, leaving them hanging crookedly. To address this design flaw, I've created a replacement pin with a flat piece of plastic attached to it using glue. To use this part, first ensure that the hole in the frame is clear and approximately 1/4 inch in diameter. Next, smooth out the end of the shutter slat, removing any remnants of the old pin. A utility knife or file can be used for this task. Place the replacement pin into the matching hole on the frame and apply a small amount of gel-type Cyanoacrylate glue to the flat plastic wing. Be cautious not to glue the pin onto the slat, as this would prevent it from fitting properly into the shutter frame. In my previous photo, you may have noticed that I glued a pin directly to a slat with both ends broken off. However, this is not the recommended approach. To avoid getting glue on the pin or between the frame and wing, carefully position the shutter slat in place and hold it for 60 seconds. Alternatively, use masking tape to secure it while the glue dries. The photos included demonstrate an earlier design without tapered wings, whereas the latest version features tapered wings and a round central portion. I've also provided images of the simpler rectangular wing style for your reference.
