Window of Life
sketchfab
The window is both the driving force and underlying theme behind this work's creation. Dr Iskandar applies his vibrant yellow, pink, and blue colour stains with a speed and lightness reminiscent of a watercolour artist at work. The translucent effect he achieves with these colours echoes the delicate beauty of glass window panes. Meanwhile, his use of inka technique to stamp floral impressions into the piece creates a dainty patterning that recalls the intricate designs found on lace curtains. To complete the scene, a wavy branch from Sabah is added as a handle, infusing the piece with a sense of dynamic movement. This work's unique fusiform shape sets it apart from traditional wheel-formed round vessels. Its centre widens and tapers at both ends, giving it an unmistakable resemblance to the contours of an eye.
