Winding key - extruder indicator

prusaprinters

Yet another design of extruder indicator for Prusa printers.

Pro tip: if the part stops rotating with the extruder glue a small piece of paper on the magnet (e.g. use a paper circle from puncher and a glue stick) to ensure friction between the magnet and the engine shaft.

Part uses a 6x3mm neodymium magnet that should be glued inside the hole, which centers the magnet to the motor shaft. This setup seems to work reliably for now (I had my printer for a week when designed it).

I've included two versions of the print with the handle holes twisted by 30 degrees - I couldn't decide which looks better.

During printing the motor gets quite warm, so I don't recommend to print with PLA because the tip of the part slides into the motor where it could deform and melt.

I've designed it for 6x3mm magnet instead of recommended 8x3mm because I had spare ones left from a different project. Square look was made to match the style of Prusa printers chamfered parts and also to help printing it without supports (only with brim).

Print instructions

Printed on i3 MK3S with Prusament PETG. I've used the default settings in PrusaSlicer for Prusament PETG: layer height 0.15mm (quality), infill 15%, 0.4 nozzle, Powder-coated textured PEI bed sheet, brim is required on this sheet (but without supports). I haven't tried to print it on the smooth PEI sheet (probably it wouldn't need to be printed with brim).

Be aware that this parts may not slice properly with other nozzle diameters because of thin walls around the magnet hole.
