Windex 14 Repair that retains original bearing
thingiverse
After years of being pestered by birds and entangled in trees, my trusty old Windex 14 was in dire need of repair. Fortunately, its pin and bearing remained intact, a testament to their durability - the jewel needle bearing, in particular, is worth preserving for future use. I set out to design a replacement vane system, carefully modifying the original vane by slicing it about a centimeter from each side of the pivot point. This new print features a unique cutout that allows you to secure the stub of the original vane into place within the vane itself. As evident in the photographs, this innovative design ensures a seamless transition. Once assembled, it's essential to balance this replacement vane system - take note of the solder strip clamped around it in the photos for a better understanding. I attempted to strike a perfect balance during its creation but ultimately failed unless I pushed the pivot far back beyond reasonable limits. The glowbits, though optional, add an extra layer of functionality to the design. Printed with glow-in-the-dark filament, they shine brightly under the masthead light, making navigation easier at night. Alternatively, printing with white filament would yield similar results, providing a reliable and functional vane system that's easy on the eyes.
