Winder for re-purposing spent filament spools
thingiverse
Been dating this gal who's into crocheting big time. She pointed out that using store-bought yarn can be a real risk, as it might get tangled halfway through. Winding yarn by hand seemed like a hassle to me, but then I had an idea. "Why not repurpose those old spent filament reels so she can use them to store and wind her yarn? Why not create a winder to speed up the process?" Now I'm not sure if winding yarn on a spool is a good idea or not. But I wanted to make one anyway, so here it is. This little gadget could be used for all sorts of strings, yarns, ropes, lines, and anything else that's similar. All you need is a 5/16" bolt and a nylock nut - the bolt should be longer than 1.5". To print the body, you'll need supports, but the rest of the parts will come out fine without them. I recommend printing without a brim to get the best results. I plan on taking an old mouse pad and gluing it to the table clamp part so that it has more grip and won't damage any furniture.
