Wind Vane with AS5048 Magnetic Rotary Encoder
thingiverse
This anemometer is constructed around the AS5048B magnetic rotary encoder. The anemometer is extremely lightweight, designed to be mounted atop a model sailboat mast. Initial testing revealed that the vane is accurate, stable, and highly responsive to very light breezes. The AS5048 chip proves to be an excellent selection for this application due to its ability to provide 0.02 degree resolution and facilitate high-rate sampling via an I2C interface. In this configuration, I discovered that sub-degree repeatability was easily attainable. Hopefully, this tutorial and accompanying files will make it simpler for you to implement the same setup and create a sophisticated weather station or sailboat! The model was created using Fusion 360 and can be downloaded from https://a360.co/3drYly9. Enjoy the project!
