Wind vane (on M8 threaded rod)
thingiverse
This is my creation of a wind vane that I designed specifically for use with Miiike's Vertical Windmill Mk2, but it can be used as a standalone device. Although the Vertical Windmill Mk2 utilizes carbon fibre rods, I opted to utilize steel 4mm rods in this project. In the tip of the vane, I employ an 8mm rod. For the bearings, I chose 8x16x5(688ZZ) bearings from Banggood - http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-10Pcs-16mmx8mmx5mm-Steel-Shielded-Deep-Groove-Ball-Bearing-688ZZ-p-49911.html. The rods themselves were sourced from my local construction market. To assemble the wind vane, simply follow the drawing provided. It's worth noting that the steel 8mm rod located at the tip of the vane plays a crucial role in balancing the assembly. If this rod is not positioned correctly, excessive weight will shift towards the tail section, resulting in uneven rotation and a lack of smoothness.
