Wind up Mechanism for Lego

Wind up Mechanism for Lego

thingiverse

This is a wind up mechanism that is compatible with Lego. This is the first version and works wel enough to produce a working wind up "Car" I suspect people who are much smarter than me at Lego could come up with some decent uses/Designs. The entire mechanism can be 3d printed and theres no need for anything else. The ratchet fits into the gear and the spring then sits on top. Lego axels can be inserted each side. A simple Lego pin can then be used to attach the other end of the coil spring. A Rounded lego gear works well as a winder. This is just the first version, I attempted to make it so the size is compatible with existing Lego gears and so that the coil spring isn't much bigger meaning you dont need loads of space around it. I haven't experimented too much with thicknesses and additional coils yet as this worked well first time. I printed each part in PLA (not tested with PETG or ABS) witha resolution of 0.2. I used Rafts to print, but you should be able to print without. The holes for the lego pieces to fit into, IE the Axle and Pin hole are tight when first printed, Mine loosened up after a few uses.
