Wind Turbine With Servo Movement and Sail added
thingiverse
The original is a great model, but I made quite a few changes. Wind turbines normally turn to follow the wind, so I modified the base to allow mounting of the standard cheap SG90 servos so you can make the wind turbine rotate. It may have just been the printer under-extruding, but I needed to print a little collar to make sure that the motor mount fitted snugly on top of the pole. The servo is completely hidden. You need to glue the pole onto a servo mounting arm (the circular ones are best) because it's so close to the base you can't use screws. I also had a bit of a nightmare printing this, so I made several modifications to make it easier to print like adding massive brims to the pole and removing the need for supports to the motor-mount apart from the hole that the motor goes into. I also built a very simple sail to go on the back of the turbine and made it so you can attach it to the motor mount with M3 bolts. You'll need to cut the bolts to the right length. Incidentally this also does a great job of holding the motor in place. The print orientation for the base and collar are wrong in the STL, but I don't have access to MeshMixer at the moment to fix it. No supports needed for either.
