For a demo description, check out the video here: https://youtu.be/8zEcaScTKgc ENGLISH: This wind turbine features a mechanism that periodically emits a little "crack" to scare away birds (every minute or more, depending on wind speed). It requires two 2.4mm diameter nails at least 30mm long for the axles. The design is compact to allow use of feathers and make it more "natural." You can also use 3D printed blades and customize them. Choose from 3, 5, or 7 blades - five works better for me. All parts were designed with FreeCAD, an open-source software. To customize a part, simply change parameters in the "data" spreadsheet of each FreeCAD file. Warning: complex parts like the head may take some time to calculate. Print all parts once except: - Blade screws (1 per blade) - Planet gear (x9) - Carrier mid (x2) For 3D printing, I recommend: - Use a well-calibrated z-axis for gears or add a raft under each gear - Print gears and screws separately to prevent surface defaults - Print large screws in 160µm layer and small screws in 120µm or less; all other parts in 200µm. On parts with threads like the main body, I decrease the layer thickness for the threaded area. The best material is PLA, but I also used PETG for more temperature-resistant designs. For assembly: - Watch the tutorial here: https://youtu.be/OdTVWZ0uWQk - You will need 2.5 and 5mm hex keys and a fine plier or tweezers - Two nails are required; they must be 2.4mm in diameter and at least 30mm long (head excluded). The horizontal nail must be cut to 30mm +/- 1mm (head excluded). - Check and clean the surface of gears and threads before assembly - You can add grease inside the gear train (not mandatory) - I use super glue to fix the first central gear on the horizontal nail; epoxy should also work well. Once assembled, attach it to a tube (bamboo works great) and enjoy when the wind makes your crops safe.
