Wind speed gauge - Anemometer

UPDATED 12-25-2019 This is the current version, an older one can be found at: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4066146 I'm proud to showcase one of my weather stations, and this Anemometer works fantastically well. It has handled and recorded winds up to 30+mph so far without any issues. I designed it to slide into PVC pipe, making installation a breeze. I use a simple op amp circuit to convert infrared LED and infrared transistor signals into digital data. The ESP8266 12E then records this digital signal and sends it to the local network and an off-site server. You can view my full weather station schematics below for more information. I've been collecting data since Dec 13 2017, with over 17,000 records to date. Although the website is still a work in progress, I've hard-coded everything, including the graph which uses tables in HTML. My goal is to add a lookup history feature soon, but compared to the NOAA site near my location, it's been remarkably accurate. I'm currently designing a rain gauge and plan to convert the entire station from spare parts to 3D printed components. Some of the sensors are even duplicated for redundancy and cross-checking purposes, ensuring the accuracy of the data. Updated 8/17/18: Since the original design in April 2018, I've swapped out the spinning cups with ones made of ABS. I was initially concerned that PLA would not withstand high temperatures, and indeed when we hit temps of 106+, the PLA one drooped. The new ABS one works great and holds up to the heat, so I highly recommend using ABS or PETG or other higher-temperature materials.
