This creation was crafted for Ultimaker's Design Engine Challenge Week 1, where innovators were tasked with creating an object that generates sound or music. The parameter cards for this challenge emphasized permanence and designing for others. I conceptualized this instrument as a long-term fixture at the "Rocks at Gloucester," situated on the ocean's edge in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The ocean is notoriously fierce there, crashing against the rock outcropping with incredible force. This instrument could be printed on a large format printer and installed partially submerged just off the rocks' edge. As the ocean water hits it or the wind blows over it, it would produce an enchanting soundscape for all visitors to enjoy.
