Wind blocker mount for BMW Z4 E85
thingiverse
I had a problem with my Z4's Windblocker: it didn't have anywhere to go when not in use. I opted to create custom mounts instead of buying them from BMW. You'll need to print two mounts and two spacers, then mirror them for the opposite side in your 3D slicer. In addition to the mounts, you'll also require four nut holders and four M3 nuts. The mounts are secured using M3x12 mm bolts and medium-sized washers. Installing the nut holders with the nuts can be tricky, so take your time. I added a dot of hot glue to both flat sides of each holder's 'wings' and let them cool completely. Then, I threaded a thin piece of rope through the holder and nut, tied a knot in the rope, and had it facing towards the nut. Next, slide the holder into its designated hole, ensuring the wings remain horizontal. Gently pull the rope while carefully heating the surrounding metal with a heat gun at low temperature. The hot glue will slowly melt, allowing you to position the holder so that the hole is centered. Once the glue has cooled, cut the rope near the holder and push the remaining piece of rope with the knot back through the holder.
