William Wallace, revered as the "Guardian of Scotland," led the Scottish resistance against English rule with unwavering determination. As a champion of freedom, he spent his life battling fiercely against English forces to secure Scottish independence. The pivotal moment in his campaign came when he seized Stirling Castle, a triumph widely regarded by historians as the first major victory for the Scottish resistance. This tribute was commissioned by an American descendant, William Wallace Spence, who took immense pride in his heritage and considered Wallace a "champion of freedom whose memory should be honored not only by Scotland but by the world at large." The statue itself is crafted from bronze, a precise replica of the renowned William Wallace statue standing proudly on Abbey Craig in Scotland since 1881. This iconic tribute to Wallace can be found towering above Druid Hill Park in Baltimore, MD. D.W. Stevenson's masterpiece, created in 1893, measures 16 ft × 6 ft × 4 ft (4.9 m × 1.8 m × 1.2 m).
