The PZL-104 Wilga, or golden oriole, is a versatile short-takeoff-and-landing civil aviation aircraft crafted by Polish engineers at PZL Warszawa-Okęcie and later licensed to European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) following their 2001 acquisition. The initial prototype took to the skies on April 24, 1962, and entered commercial service in 1963, showcasing its impressive adaptability through continuous improvements from 1962 to 2006, a production span of nearly four decades. Civilians comprised the majority of Wilga operators; military services utilized it primarily for training and communication duties, albeit with minimal numbers due to its largely civilian appeal. Over 1,000 units were manufactured before EADS officially declared an end to production in 2006. A replica scaled down by one-third serves as a high-end radio-controlled aircraft model, boasting a substantial wingspan of 3600mm and standing out among hobbyists for its substantial size and intricate details.
