Wildlife camera stand

If you own a wildlife camera, you probably now the struggle of pointing the camera in a direction. If you tie the camera to a tree, not much movement is possible. For example, with a slanted tree, something must be placed behind the camera to point it horizontal. In this model, I have made a simple/cheap solution for this problem. The slot allows the stand to be attached to the tree. The joint allows the camera to be pointed in any direction. When position of the camera is in the right direction, the tightening pin can be tightened. After this the camera stays in this position and the perfect picture can be shot.

Bill of materials

The model is almost fully made of PLA. There are three bolts necessary to assemble the model.

M4 x 20mm machine screw (pan head) - (x 3)

If you have other sizes at home, it is always possible to drill a little extra out of the holes

Assemblage

First the joint needs to be assembled. For this, the ‘1_4-20 thread’ needs to be placed in the ‘joint’. The pin makes sure that this will not come out.

Secondly, the two ‘half props’ are assembled with the joint between them. The machine screws must be used for this. There is no need to tighten these screws too much, otherwise the PLA will deform.

In the last step, the ‘tightening pin’ can be added.

Important

Strength: The ‘half props’ are printed sideways for its best strength. The ‘tightening pin’ and ‘1_4-20 thread’ are the most fragile. Therefore, they also are printed sideways. If it ever will happen that the ‘1_4-20 thread’ snaps, it can easily be replaced because of the assembling in the joint.

Support: Only the ‘first half prop’ needs support underneath the holes for the screws. Everything else can be made without support.

Be aware of the small pieces from the thread on the print bed. If this comes loose a brim or raft can be used.
