Wilder Winder Brake

Wilder Winder Brake

thingiverse

This is a ratcheting brake designed specifically for Wilder winders commonly used in indoor free flight models. It's a bolt-on design that requires no permanent modification to the winder itself. To assemble and install it, you will need a 6-32 x 1-1/4" pan head screw and two M3 x 8mm flat head screws. The gear is held securely in place by the head of the original screw that holds the shaft collar in its correct position. Simply remove this screw, slide the gear over the collar, and then re-install the screw to secure it. To assemble the brake itself, insert the slide into the lock and then screw the mount to the slide using the M3 screws. Installing the assembly requires only removing the original 6-32 screw from the top of the winder and attaching the brake to the winder with the 6-32 x 1-1/4" screw. The parts are designed with some clearance, which allows for smooth movement on my printer. The brake slides up and down with just enough friction to hold it in place. The model is mostly parametric, meaning that if you need more or less clearance, I can post modified STL files upon request. However, I believe this will not be necessary if your printer is reasonably well tuned.
