Wilder Mann is actually the name of a plot of land in the Geyrischen Wald since 1600. The term originated from mining and was used for locations that could not be further mined due to large water influx or other natural obstacles. The first figure of Wilder Mann emerged around 1850. Woodcutters placed a log with a coarse human head on it, which lasted about 30 years. After that, the figure was repeatedly restored by the Schnitz- and Grippenverein in Geyer. Today, the seventh figure stands here and is approximately 2.50 meters high. Every year on Pentecost Sunday, hundreds of strollers pass by the bearded old man. The design and maintenance of Wilder Mann are the responsibility of the members of Schnitzerheims in Geyer.
