Wiha Precision Handle With Rotating Cap
thingiverse
Alright, something for your toolbox! First I'd like to say that I'm head over heels in love with my Wiha precision screwdrivers. They're sleek, they're amazing, they're tough as nails and thanks to the rotating cap on the end, you've got very precise single-handed control. Anyway, I recently picked up a new set of cheap diamond files, which weren't bad, but handles were total trash. I wanted something more substantial, more elegant, more precise, more... Wiha! Here are some features I wanted from the precision handle: 1) A freely spinning cap on top of the handle so you can push the cap against your palm and use fingers to twist the handle freely. 2) Handle and cap must be printed separately. I want to use different color caps to color-code my tools. 3) The cap is press-fitted to the handle, no fasteners needed. 4) You can (lightly) hammer the top of the handle. Yes, it's a precision handle, I know. Still, I want to be able to hit it! 5) Wiha looks (looks are so important ;-) So here you have it. ..................................................... The handle is designed in OpenSCAD for extrusion width 0.5 mm and layer height 0.2 mm. This is a very thin and tall model, it's crucial to NOT have gaps between shells. So if you're using different slicing settings, I recommend regenerating the handle with your values from the SCAD file. Since you're going to be press-fitting your tools into the handle, I only recommend PETG and print about 5C hotter than usual to give it more strength. I'd also recommend cleaning up the hole with a drill bit before press-fitting. I was printing my handles with something like this: 250C, 6 top & bottom layers, 4 shells, 50% infill, allow single extrusion fill and print at 30mm/sec. Go slow if you want a nice-looking handle! I used a vise with two blocks of pine as jaws to squeeze the needle file without marring it, then I hammered the handle on using a wooden mallet. ..................................................... The source file is included. If you remix, you must share your source file. ..................................................... Note: Generated ZIP file is borked (thanks Thingiverse!) so it's better to download individual files.
