I'm using this smart button with my kids since they couldn't reach our regular doorbell button. It uses an Adafruit ESP8266 breakout board. The button is connected to pins 16 and reset, while the battery tray goes to VBAT and ground. When pressed, it wakes up the ESP8266, sends a UDP message, and then goes back to sleep. To save power, I removed the red LED on the breakout board because it stays on during deep sleep. Just put your WiFi network's SSID and password into the code under the "defines" section. If you want a retry feature, comment out or delete those marked sections in the code. Then set up the receiving end to get the messages sent by this button. This code can also be used for other smart buttons. Have fun with it!
