Name: Chess Pieces. Made in a bunker where Jewish residents of Kołomyja hid during World War II. A complete set of hand-carved chess pieces made by Pola Najder (1917-97) while hiding with her husband and eight others in a bunker in Kołomyja during World War II. Due to lack of paint, all pieces are the same color. To distinguish between black and white, half were marked on the bottom with an "X".
